FSSAI Issues Notices to Eight Food Companies Over ‘Healthy’ Product Claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to eight food business operators for alleged violations related to brand names, trade names, and product claims that may mislead under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The companies that received notices include Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B, and Neuherbs.

According to regulator, certain product names, branding elements, and marketing claims used by these companies may create impressions that are not in line with applicable food safety and labelling regulations. Emami Healthy & Tasty’s trade name has come under regulatory scrutiny, while Plan B was flagged for marketing products as plant-based vegan without obtaining the mandatory vegan food endorsement under its FSSAI licence.

FSSAI also raised concerns over claims associated with products marketed by The Healthy Factory, Troovy, and Neuherbs. In addition, taglines and branding used by Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, and Health Aid were cited for potentially influencing consumer perception regarding the health attributes of their products.

The regulator has sought responses from the companies regarding the alleged violations.
