BP Deputy CEO Carol Howle To Retire, Sam Skerry Named Trading Head

BP has announced the retirement of Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Dy CEO) and Head of Supply, Trading, and Shipping Carol Howle, as the company continues changes to its leadership team. Howle, who has worked at BP for 26 years, will leave the company in the third quarter of 2026.

Sam Skerry, who has led BP’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) business since 2022, will succeed Howle as Head of Supply, Trading and Shipping from August 2026.

The announcement follows the appointment of Meg O’Neill as BP’s CEO in April and the removal of Chairman Albert Manifold in May.

BP also said Sonya Adams, currently Chief of Staff, will take charge of the company’s people and culture functions, succeeding Kerry Dryburgh, who will also leave the company in the third quarter.

Carol Howle is a senior energy industry executive with more than 20 years of experience in supply, trading, shipping, finance, and business operations. Earlier, she headed BP Shipping and served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for integrated supply and trading. Her previous roles include COO for natural gas liquids, regional leader of global oil Europe, finance leadership positions, and head of the Group CEO’s Office. Howle also serves as a non-executive board member of the Royal Navy and chairs its Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.

Sam Skerry is a senior BP executive with experience in M&A, trading, supply, and business development. Before being appointed head of BP’s supply, trading, and shipping business, she served as Senior Vice President (SVP) of M&A, leading acquisitions, divestments, and joint venture transactions. Earlier, she headed BP Launchpad & Ventures, overseeing the development and commercialisation of new businesses and technology initiatives. She has spent much of her international career in trading and supply, covering crude oil, refined products, natural gas, and financial derivatives, with a focus on business growth and strategic investments.
