HDFC Bank Begins CEO Succession Process As Sashidhar Jagdishan To Retire In October

HDFC Bank Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) Sashidhar Jagdishan will retire on October 26, 2026, after deciding not to seek another term, the bank said in a regulatory filing.

The bank’s Board had asked Jagdishan to continue, but he conveyed his decision to retire. Following the development, the board has accelerated the process to identify and appoint his successor. The bank is also working through the required governance and regulatory process for the leadership transition. Jagdishan took charge as CEO and MD in October 2020, succeeding Aditya Puri. He has been with HDFC Bank for more than two decades and previously served as its Chief Financial Officer.

During his tenure as CEO, he oversaw the merger of HDFC Ltd. with HDFC Bank. The bank’s Board said it recognised his contribution to the lender’s growth, stability and the completion of the merger.
