Samsung Electronics Co-CEO Han Jong-hee Passes Away, Jun Young-hyun Takes Sole Charge

Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that co-CEO Han Jong-hee passed away from a heart attack, leaving newly appointed Jun Young-hyun solely in charge of the company.

Han, 63, was appointed CEO in 2022 and led the consumer electronics and mobile devices division. Jun, who was promoted in 2024 to lead the semiconductor division, was named co-CEO last week. Following Han’s death, Samsung confirmed Jun as the sole CEO in a stock exchange filing. The company has not yet decided on Han’s successor. Han spent nearly 40 years at Samsung, contributing significantly to its television business and global market presence.
