Manoj Kohli joins WeWork Board as Independent Director

WeWork India has announced the appointment of Manoj Kohli, the former country head of SoftBank India and SoftBank Group International, as an independent director on its Board. Alongside Kohli, Anthony Yazbeck, the president and chief operating officer of WeWork Inc., has also joined WeWork India’s Board.

Manoj Kohli expressed optimism about the potential of the flexible workspace industry in India and stated his intention to leverage his expertise in managing and scaling businesses at WeWork India. He believes that WeWork India is well-positioned to play a significant role in the country’s growth story.

During his tenure as SoftBank’s country head, Kohli played a crucial role in supporting the group and Vision Fund’s investments of $15 billion in over 25 AI-focused portfolio companies in India. He also provided assistance to entrepreneurs and CEOs of prominent players in the Indian market, such as OLA, OYO, Lenskart, Grofers, Snapdeal, Uber, Swiggy, and Unacademy, in addressing regulatory and government issues and scaling their businesses.

WeWork India has been experiencing a consistent increase in demand for its workspaces in the country and recently secured a funding round of Rs 550 crore in December 2022. In 2022, the company achieved a revenue of Rs 1,300 crore and an EBITDA of Rs 185 crore.

WeWork stated that the appointment of Manoj Kohli will further strengthen the company’s vision and sustain its growth momentum, focusing on providing a superior workspace experience based on flexibility, accessibility, and community.

Karan Virwani, CEO of WeWork India, highlighted the importance of Kohli’s experience in managing and growing businesses of scale, as well as Anthony Yazbeck’s industry and brand expertise, relationships with global partners and investors, and their collective contribution to achieving new milestones in the Indian market.
