Disney-WBD-Fox Appoints Pete Distad as CEO of the forthcoming Sports Streaming Service
ESPN (DIS), Fox (FOX, FOXA), and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) have collaborated to unveil a joint sports streaming venture. In a recent announcement, the companies appointed Pete Distad, a former executive at Apple (AAPL) and Hulu, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the forthcoming service. The announcement of Distad’s appointment was made on Friday morning by the companies.
Before joining his current role, Pete Distad served in various positions at prominent companies. At Apple, he oversaw business, operations, and global distribution for video, sports, and Apple TV+. Prior to his tenure at Apple, he contributed to the original launch team at Hulu, where he eventually ascended to the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Distribution. Earlier in his career, he also gained experience at McKinsey.
According to a press release by the companies, this isn’t a final agreement on the service yet. Distad will report to the joint venture’s Board of Directors once it’s established.
The service, announced just last month, aims to offer channels like ESPN, TNT, TBS, and Fox in a sports-focused package. Details such as the name and price are still being decided, showing how quickly the project came together.
