Challa Srinivasalu Setty Takes the Helm as SBI Chairman, succeeding Dinesh Khara

Challa Srinivasalu Setty took over as Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) on August 28. His journey at SBI began in 1988 as a probationary officer, leading to a notable role as Deputy Managing Director of the Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG), where he played a crucial part in reducing SBI’s bad loans.

As Setty prepares to lead SBI, he remains focused on profitable growth and maintaining the bank’s strong financial performance, a legacy left by his predecessor, Dinesh Khara.

Khara took over as Chairman in October 2020, having started his career with the bank in 1984. Prior to Chairman, he held several significant posts at SBI, including MD for Global Banking & Subsidiaries, Associates & Subsidiaries, and SBI Mutual Funds; and Chief General Manager for the Bhopal Circle. As Managing Director, he oversaw the International Banking Group, Large Corporate, and Treasury operations, along with non-banking subsidiaries such as SBI Cards, SBIMF, SBI Life, and SBI General. He holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies in New Delhi and a commerce degree from the Delhi School of Economics.
