Vale Shareholders Elect Manuel Lino Silva de Sousa Oliveira As Board Chairperson
Vale shareholders have elected Manuel Lino Silva de Sousa Oliveira (Ollie) as the new Chairperson of the mining company’s Board, concluding a governance dispute over the leadership transition.
Oliveira, who previously served as the company’s lead Independent Director, was elected during a shareholder vote held on Wednesday. His appointment follows the resignation of former Chairperson Daniel Stieler earlier this month, ahead of the end of his term scheduled for April 2027.
Manuel Oliveira, popularly known as Ollie, is an experienced corporate finance and strategy executive with over 45 years of experience, primarily across the mining sector. He also contributes to Vale’s governance, audit, risk, and sustainability committees. He has held senior roles with global mining giants including Anglo American and De Beers, with extensive international experience, including Brazil. He is a recognised Independent Director with expertise in mining, finance, risk management, ESG, capital markets, and institutional relations. A graduate in Accounting and Business Economics from the University of Natal-Durban, South Africa, he also holds qualifications in chartered accountancy and management accountancy from leading professional institutes in South Africa and the UK.
