Lloyd’s Of London Finds Former CEO Breached Compliance Rules Over Undisclosed Relationship
Lloyd’s of London has concluded that former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Neal breached the organisation’s compliance policies by failing to disclose a relationship with a female employee that created a perceived conflict of interest.
The Council of Lloyd’s said its investigation found no conclusive evidence that Neal and former Corporate Affairs Director Rebekah Clement were involved in a romantic relationship during their time at the organisation. It also found no evidence that Clement’s promotion was handled improperly. However, the council determined that Neal’s conduct did not meet the standards expected of senior leaders. It also said Clement should have disclosed the perceived conflict of interest.
The investigation, launched in November after both had left Lloyd’s, included interviews with nearly 40 witnesses. The council also found shortcomings in the handling of whistleblower reports made in November 2023.
Following the review, Lloyd’s said it has strengthened governance measures, including changes to its code of conduct and disclosure requirements for senior executives.
