
RBI Approves Nurani Subramanian Vishwanathan’s Reappointment As Part-Time Chairman Of Axis Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the reappointment of Nurani Subramanian Vishwanathan as the Non-Executive Part-Time Chairman of Axis Bank for a three-year term commencing on October 27, 2026. The approval is subject to shareholders reappointing Vishwanathan as an Independent Director at the bank’s 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for July 31, 2026.
Vishwanathan joined the RBI in 1981 as a Direct Recruit Officer. He retired as Deputy Governor in March 2020 after overseeing banking regulation, non-banking finance, cooperative banking, governance, risk management, human resources, and enforcement. During his career, he also served as Director (Supervision) at the Bank of Mauritius, Chief Vigilance Officer and Head of Internal Audit at IFCI, and a Board Member of SEBI from 2016 to 2020. He currently chairs the Governing Council of IDRBT and serves on the Boards of National E-Governance Services Limited and SRO-FT Development Foundation. He holds degrees in economics and has completed an executive programme at the University of Cambridge.
