BP Removes Chairperson Albert Manifold Over Governance And Conduct Concerns

BP has removed Chairperson Albert Manifold after the Board raised concerns related to governance standards, oversight, and conduct. The company said the Board unanimously decided that Manifold should no longer continue as Chairman and Director with immediate effect.

BP announced Board Member Ian Tyler, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Balfour Beatty, will serve as interim Chairperson.

The decision follows information received through a whistleblower report that led the Board to review allegations regarding his behaviour with colleagues, according to reports. Manifold disputed the allegations and said he was removed without prior warning or explanation.

Manifold is a Director at Clariant AG. He is also an Adviser to private investment firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice. Earlier, he served as Group CEO and Director of CRH plc from 2014 to 2024 after joining the company in 1998 and holding several senior roles. Before CRH, he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Allen McGuire & Partners. Manifold has more than 25 years of experience in the building materials industry and expertise in corporate finance, capital markets, strategic planning, acquisitions, and international operations. He is a fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland and holds an MBA and an MBS degree from Dublin City University.
