Ofcom Seeks Revised Risk Assessments Under Online Safety Law

Ofcom has directed more than 40 online services to submit updated risk assessments under the Online Safety Act. The move increases requirements on platforms to explain how they identify and limit illegal content and user harm.

The regulator found gaps in earlier submissions and has asked companies to revise their processes and safeguards. It has been indicated that delays or incomplete filings may lead to enforcement steps. Services used by children face added requirements to assess exposure to harmful material and outline measures to reduce risk. The regulator is requiring platforms to integrate safety into system design and compliance processes.

Ofcom has also said that large platforms may be required to publish summaries of their assessments, adding public visibility. The latest action reflects a shift toward monitoring compliance and applying enforcement measures under the law.
