MCA Data Shows Foreign Company Registrations In India Hit Five-Year High In 2025

Registrations by foreign companies in India rose to a five-year high in 2025, with 92 overseas firms setting up operations during the year, according to an analysis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) data.

This compares with 53 registrations in 2024 and 76 in 2021, while the previous peak was recorded in 2020 with 93 registrations. Services accounted for 87% of the new registrations, or 80 companies, up from 81.1% in the previous year. These firms were engaged in segments such as business services, real estate and renting, trading, transport and communications, finance and insurance, and community and social services. The industrial sector, including manufacturing, construction, mining, and quarrying, accounted for 13% of registrations, down from 15.1% in 2024. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, and Gujarat attracted most of the new foreign companies.

The number of foreign manufacturing firms increased to 10 in 2025 from two a year earlier. As of December 2025, India had 5,302 registered foreign companies, of which 62% were active.
