
Adani Energy Solutions Names Kandarp Patel As CEO; Former Tata Steel MD Hemant Nerurkar Among New Independent Directors
Kandarp Patel has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), designated as Whole-Time Director of Adani Energy Solutions Limited, effective May 31, 2025.
Hemant Nerurkar, Dr Amiya Chandra, and Chandra Iyengar have been appointed as Non-Executive Independent Directors (Additional Directors) effective May 31, 2025.
Kandarp has over 20 years of experience in power trading, fuel management, legal and regulatory affairs, and commercial functions within the power sector. He began his career at Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) as Controller of Accounts and later took on responsibilities in commercial operations. In 2004, he joined Adani Enterprises, where he established the power trading business. From 2009 to 2022, he led business development for Adani Power, managing the execution of Power Purchase Agreements for over 10,000 MW with various state utilities. In 2013, he played a role in integrating an acquired business from Lanco into Adani Power’s operations. His understanding of regulatory frameworks supported the resolution of key issues and disputes.
Nerurkar has over 35 years of experience in the steel industry. He is the former MD of Tata Steel, where he joined in February 1982, and held various roles including Chief Metallurgist, General Manager (Marketing), and Chief Operating Officer. He became Executive Director for India and South-East Asia in April 2009. His areas of work spanned project execution, manufacturing, quality control, supply chain, and marketing. He was Vice President (Flat Products) in 2002 and COO in 2007. He has been associated with organisations like the Indian Institute of Metals and AIMA. His recognitions include the Tata Gold Medal, SMS Demag Excellence Award, Steel 80’s Award, SAIL Gold Medal, Visveswaraya Award, and NMD Award.
Dr Chandra is a former civil servant from the Indian Trade Service, 1989 batch. Over his career, he held various roles in the ministries of commerce, textiles, youth affairs and sports, urban poverty alleviation, and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He also served in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Dr Chandra was the Development Commissioner for both Kandla SEZ and Mundra SEZ, managing special economic zones and export-oriented units. He was later posted to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Headquarters as Additional Director General of Foreign Trade. He also served as Trade Advisor in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Iyengar is a 1973 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and holds an MA degree from Miranda House, New Delhi. She has held key roles in the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India across departments such as Women & Child Development, Higher & Technical Education, Rural Development, and Health. As Secretary for Women & Child Development, she was involved in draughting and implementing the first state policy for women’s empowerment in India. She also served as Additional Chief Secretary – Home for the Government of Maharashtra. In addition to her administrative roles, she has served on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and as Chairperson of the Maharashtra Energy Regulatory Commission (MERC).
