Wockhardt’s Independent Director Sanjaya Baru & D. S. Brar Retired

Sanjaya Baru, D. S. Brar, and Aman Mehta ceased to be the Independent Directors of Wockhardt Limited upon completion of their second term of five years on March 31, 2024.

Sanjaya Baru has been a Director on the Board of Wockhardt since April 2012. Baru is among the top editors and served as a media advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. His extensive career includes roles such as Secretary-General of FICCI, Director of Geo-economics and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, and editorial positions at esteemed publications such as Business Standard, The Financial Express, The Economic Times, and The Times of India. He has imparted his expertise as a visiting professor at institutions like the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore and the Indian School of Public Policy in New Delhi. Holding a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr. Baru is recognized as a Distinguished Fellow at institutions such as the United Service Institution of India and the Centre for Air Power Studies, India. Formerly, he held the title of Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis in New Delhi.

D. S. Brar has served as a Director of the company since August 2012. With over four decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Brar notably served as CEO and Managing Director of Ranbaxy Laboratories before venturing into entrepreneurship. He founded GVK Biosciences (now Aragen Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd.) and Excelra Knowledge Solutions. He currently chairs both companies and holds directorial positions in various organisations, including Mphasis and EPL (where he serves as Chairman). He has been recognised for his contributions with awards such as the Dean’s Medal from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2004 and the ‘FABA Special Award 2011’ from the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations. He holds a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, and a Master’s degree in Management (Gold Medallist) from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.

Since 2004, Aman Gupta has been Director of Wockhadt. He has 35 years of experience with the HSBC Group and has held various projects. In the Middle East, America, and Asia Pacific, he headed HSBC’s operations.
