Vaibhav Taneja appointed as the CFO of Tesla

In a sudden development, Elon Musk-led global EV major Tesla appointed Vaibhav Taneja, 45, as the Chief Financial officer on Monday 7th August 2023, replacing Zachary Kirkhorn.

Indian-origin Taneja joined Tesla after the company purchased SolarCity in 2016 where he handled finance and accounts. He will serve as CFO or “Master of Coin” in addition to his duties as Chief Accounting Officer, according to the company. He has worked with auditing giant PwC in India as well as in the US between 1999 and 2916.

Kirkhorn, a 13-year Tesla veteran, stepped down from the position on Friday 4th August 2023 but will continue with the firm until the end of the year. Kirkhorn’s resignation was not explained by the company. This transition came as a surprise to the observers since Kirkhorn’s name was floated as a probable successor to Elon Musk at Tesla, earlier this year.
