Union Bank Shareholders Approve Asheesh Pandey’s Appointment As CEO & MD

Union Bank of India shareholders have approved the appointment of Asheesh Pandey as the bank’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) at the 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on July 10, 2026.

Shareholders also approved the reappointment of Nitesh Ranjan and Ramasubramanian S. as Executive Directors. In addition, Amresh Prasad was appointed as Executive Director, while Dr. Debasish Prusty was appointed as Government Nominee Director on the bank’s Board.

Before taking over as CEO & MD of Union Bank of India, Asheesh Pandey served as Executive Director at Bank of Maharashtra and Chief General Manager at Union Bank. He played a key role in the digital transformation and integration of Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank with Union Bank. He is a banker with over 27 years of experience in the banking sector. He began his career with the erstwhile Corporation Bank and has held leadership positions across credit, treasury, merchant banking, foreign transactions, marketing, customer relationships, and banking operations. Pandey is a mechanical engineer with a postgraduate degree in management and is an alumnus of IIM Bangalore. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.

Nitesh Ranjan has been the Executive Director of Union Bank of India since March 10, 2021, overseeing digital transformation, balance sheet optimisation, customer experience, and people development initiatives. Associated with the bank since 2008, he has held key roles including Head of Treasury Operations & Strategy, Chief Investor Relations Officer, Chief Economist, and Regional Head. He began his career with the Food Corporation of India and later worked with Andhra Bank. A member of the IBA Steering Committee on PSB Reforms, he has served on the Boards of NPCI, SUD Life Insurance Company, SWIFT India, SBI Global Factors Ltd, and FIMMDA. He holds a postgraduate degree in economics and completed the Leadership Development Programme at IIM Bangalore.

Ramasubramanian S. has been serving as Executive Director of Union Bank of India since November 21, 2022. Before this, he was Chief General Manager at Canara Bank, with over 25 years of experience across corporate credit, MSME and retail credit, international banking, and forex operations. During his career, he has handled key roles across various business lines, including large and mid-corporate banking, prime corporate credit, Hong Kong operations, and administrative offices. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science along with a CAIIB qualification. He has undergone the Leadership Development Strategy Programme conducted by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau and serves on the IBA’s Standing Committee for Corporate Credit.

Before this role, Amresh Prasad served as Chief General Manager at Punjab National Bank’s Corporate Office. He brings over 32 years of banking experience across branch banking, zonal offices, and head office functions, with expertise in corporate credit, credit review and monitoring, and transaction monitoring. He holds a graduate degree in Chemistry and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). Shri Prasad has participated in various training and leadership development programmes, including the Leadership Development Programme at SBIL Kolkata and the Aarohan 2023 FSIB Programme conducted by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau.

Dr. Debasish Prusty is a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and currently serves as Additional Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. With over 26 years of experience, he has worked in areas including public finance, sustainable development, development cooperation, environmental governance, and urban governance. He has contributed to India’s international climate initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, and represented India at UNFCCC negotiations. Dr. Prusty holds a PhD in Management from Manipal University Jaipur and an MPhil in Environmental Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has also received training from the International Monetary Fund in finance for macro-economists.
