Shree Cement’s Independent Director Nitin Desai Resigns

Nitin Dayalji Desai has resigned as the Independent Director of Shree Cement Limited with effect from March 21, 2024, due to personal reasons.

Nitin Desai, an Indian economist and former international civil servant, held prominent roles including Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations and Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, and Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India. Following his retirement from the United Nations, Desai remained active in numerous roles, serving as the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative on Internet Governance, a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change and National Security Advisory Board, co-chair of the Indo-UK Roundtable, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Oxfam International, and Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics. He continues to play leadership roles in global climate governance and research through affiliations with institutions such as the Foundation for Ecological Security and The Energy and Resources Institute, among others. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Bombay and a Master’s in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also regularly contributes a column to Business Standard.
