SEBI, ESMA Sign MoU To Strengthen Cooperation On Central Counterparties

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of India’s capital and securities markets, and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and facilitate the exchange of information concerning Central Counterparties (CCPs) regulated and supervised by SEBI. The MoU replaces the earlier agreement signed between the two authorities on June 21, 2017.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in accordance with the respective laws and regulations of SEBI and ESMA. It also enables ESMA to place reliance on SEBI’s regulatory and supervisory activities while safeguarding the financial stability of the European Union. The MoU underscores the importance of cross-border regulatory cooperation in facilitating international clearing activities. It was signed by SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey and ESMA Chair Verena Ross.
