
RBI Approves Re-appointment of B. Ramesh Babu as MD & CEO of Karur Vysya Bank
The Reserve Bank of India has approved the re-appointment of B. Ramesh Babu as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Karur Vysya Bank for a third term of two years.
In a letter dated April 24, 2026, the central bank cleared Babu’s continuation in the top role with effect from July 29, 2026. He has been serving as MD & CEO since July 2020.
Prior to joining Karur Vysya Bank, Babu served as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at the State Bank of India. In that role, he oversaw retail banking and operations across more than 21,000 branches and over 1.2 lakh customer touchpoints, including ATMs and service centres.
He has also led the Chennai Circle of SBI, managing over 1,300 branches across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and has been associated with policy formulation through participation in key apex committees of the bank. His board-level experience includes serving as Director on five associate banks of SBI and as an invitee to the boards of its non-banking subsidiaries.
A seasoned banker with over four decades of experience, Babu brings extensive expertise across banking operations, strategic planning, treasury, payments and settlement systems, and human resources. He holds a postgraduate degree in Commerce from Andhra University and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He also has a Diploma in International Factoring from Factors Chain International, Netherlands.
Beyond his executive responsibilities, Babu currently serves as a member of the Managing Committee and Alternate Chairman of the Corporate Credit Committee at the Indian Banking Association, and as Director at the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
