OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Maruti, Has Stepped Down After 6 Years of Tenure
On Wednesday, Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of OpenAI, stepped down from the post after serving for six years. Her decision marks yet another high-profile departure from OpenAI.
Mira Murati, aged 53, played a significant role in developing ChatGPT and led the launches of Dall-E, an image generator, and Codex, an AI code generator. Her departure follows her brief stint as interim CEO after Sam Altman’s ousting last November.
CEO of the company, Sam Altman, has since announced Mark Chen as the new Senior VP of Research and Josh Achiam as Head of Mission Alignment.
Her exit follows those of other prominent figures, including co-founders Greg Brockman (currently on extended leave) and John Schulman (now at rival Anthropic), along with a product team leader and a former Meta employee. Earlier this year, co-founder Ilya Sutskever also left OpenAI after a boardroom conflict. Only two of the original 11 founders now remain.
