Nissan Names Ivan Espinosa As Successor To CEO Makoto Uchida

Nissan has appointed Ivan Espinosa, its Chief Planning Officer, as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2025, following Makoto Uchida’s decision to step down.

Uchida had faced pressure due to declining earnings and the collapse of merger talks with Honda. Espinosa, who joined Nissan in 2003, has held roles in Mexico, Southeast Asia, and Europe. He has led product planning and global strategy and took on his current position in April 2024. It is unclear whether his appointment will revive merger discussions or attract new investment partners. Nissan had also considered CFO Jeremie Papin and Chief Performance Officer Guillaume Cartier for the role.
