New India Assurance Appoints Lavanya R. Mundayur As CMD; Names Three New KMPs

The New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) has appointed Lavanya R. Mundayur as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) with effect from September 30, 2026. The appointment has been approved by the Ministry of Finance and will continue until her superannuation on May 31, 2029, or until further orders.

Mundayur was earlier CMD of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd. (AICIL) and has more than three decades of experience in the insurance sector. She previously served New India Assurance as General Manager–Technical and Chief Underwriting Officer, overseeing property, marine and aviation underwriting and claims.

With the appointment of a regular CMD, S. Sivasankar, who was holding additional charge of the position, ceased to do so from September 30, 2026.

Separately, NIACL announced three key management appointments effective October 1, 2026. Anjali Mirchandani has been appointed Chief Risk Officer, Rema Devi V. as Chief Underwriting Officer and Uma Iyer as Chief Marketing Officer.
