Maruti Suzuki’s Founder, Osamu Suzuki, Passes Away At 94, Leaving A Lasting Legacy

Osamu Suzuki, former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, died of malignant lymphoma on December 25, 2024, at 94.

Suzuki, known for his role in launching the Maruti 800 and transforming Maruti Udyog into India’s leading automaker, played a key role in making cars affordable and accessible to millions in India. He improved productivity and established a strong supply chain in India under his direction by introducing Japanese manufacturing techniques. Maruti Suzuki India commands a 42% share in India’s automobile market today.

Industry leaders, including SIAM and ACMA presidents, praised Suzuki’s contributions to the Indian automotive industry and his efforts to strengthen India-Japan relations. His legacy continues to inspire globally.
