
Kumar Shanker Succeeds Kamal Kishore Chatiwal As Managing Director Of Indraprastha Gas
Indraprastha Gas Limited has appointed Kumar Shanker as its Managing Director (MD) with effect from June 5, 2026, following his nomination by promoter GAIL (India) Limited. He succeeds Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, who has been repatriated to GAIL.
Shanker brings more than 31 years of experience in the natural gas sector, covering operations, project execution, regulatory affairs, and corporate management. Before joining Indraprastha Gas, he served as MD of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd. During his career, he has worked across multiple business functions within GAIL and contributed to policy and regulatory initiatives in the gas sector. His work included participation in discussions on tariff reforms and the development of digital systems for pipeline capacity booking.
Chatiwal is a senior oil and gas industry executive with more than 32 years of experience across project execution, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. He most recently served as MD of Indraprastha Gas, one of India’s largest CNG distribution companies. Before joining IGL, he was Executive Director (O&M, LPG Pipeline) and Zonal Executive Director at GAIL (India) Ltd. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Chatiwal has worked on petrochemical projects, gas processing units, compressor stations, and cross-country LPG pipelines. His experience also covers project planning, pipeline connectivity, green hydrogen, ammonia, specialty chemicals, and renewable energy. He played a role in the development and approval processes for India’s first Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) unit and Polypropylene (PP) plant at GAIL’s Usar project.
