IndiGo Co-Founder Rakesh Gangwal Named Chairman of Southwest Airlines
Rakesh Gangwal, the co-founder of IndiGo and a well-known aviation leader, has been appointed as Chairman of Southwest Airlines. He joined the Southwest Board in July after purchasing shares for USD 108 million.
Gangwal brings decades of experience, having previously held executive positions with United Airlines and US Airways. His recent purchase of 3.6 million Southwest shares demonstrates his belief in the airline’s future success. Gangwal received his BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975 and went on to obtain an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
