HDFC Bank’s Independent Director Umesh Chandra Sarangi Retired

Umesh Chandra Sarangi, Independent Director on the Board of HDFC Bank Limited, has retired on February 29, 2024, on account of the completion of his term.

Sarangi, a former Indian Administrative Service officer, has 36 years of experience. During his tenure as the Chairman of the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) from December 2007 to December 2010, Mr. Sarangi spearheaded vital reforms in agriculture modernization, emphasising agro-processing and exports. His leadership focused on rural infrastructure, microfinance, financial inclusion, watershed development, and tribal development. He currently holds membership in several Board Committees, including the Stakeholders’ Relationship Committee, Audit Committee of the Board, Fraud Monitoring Committee (as Chairman), Review Committee for Wilful Defaulters’ Identification, Review Committee for Non-Cooperative Borrowers, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and Customer Service Committee (as Chairman). He holds a Master’s degree in Science (Botany) from Utkal University.
