Google Agrees To USD 1.375 Billion Settlement With Texas Over Privacy Lawsuit
Google will pay USD 1.375 billion to settle lawsuits filed by the state of Texas over allegations it violated users’ data privacy, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said.
The lawsuits accused Google of tracking users’ locations, private searches, and collecting biometric data through products such as Location History, Incognito Mode, and voice/facial recognition tools without proper consent. Paxton said the settlement demonstrates accountability for tech firms operating in Texas, though the agreement does not require product changes. Google did not admit wrongdoing, stating that the issues relate to older policies that have since been addressed.
The settlement follows similar action against Meta Platforms, which agreed last year to pay USD 1.4 billion to resolve claims about facial recognition data use in Texas.
