Fox Settles False Election Claim with Dominion Voting Systems

Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News have reached an unexpected settlement in their high-profile lawsuit, with Fox News agreeing to pay $787.5m to Dominion. Dominion had originally sued the TV network for $1.6bn, claiming that Fox News knowingly spread false information about the company’s voting machines in the aftermath of the 2020 US election. This false information was allegedly also promoted by then-president Donald Trump, who claimed that Dominion rigged the election in favour of Joe Biden. Dominion argued that Fox News hosts amplified these baseless allegations, while Fox News claimed that they were reporting newsworthy claims. Dominion’s lawyers emphasised that this settlement sends a message that “lies have consequences,” while Fox News stated that it is pleased to bring the dispute to an end and acknowledges that certain claims were indeed false.
