Former Textile Secretary Upendra Singh Joins Sarda Energy Board As Independent Director
The Board of Directors of Sarda Energy & Minerals Limited has approved the appointment of Upendra Prasad Singh as Additional Director in the category of Independent Director with effect from March 20, 2024.
Upendra Prasad Singh belongs to the 1985 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. After a distinguished career of more than 37 years in IAS, Singh was superannuated as Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, in October 2022. He holds the distinction of being one of the longest-serving Secretaries to the Government of India, from 2017 to 2022. He has also served as Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jalshakti, for more than three years. He has spent more than 6 years in the water sector, both in the state and the centre, including more than 3 years as Secretary to the Government of India. He was also the first Director General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga.
He headed a number of public sector enterprises, both at the centre and the state, and was a Director on the boards of a number of companies, including Maharatna and Navratna companies. He has been a government nominee director on the boards of Allahabad Bank, the United Bank of India, the Steel Authority of India, KIOCL, ONGC, and Oil India. He also had an additional charge as the CMD of Oil India, now a Maharatna Company, for about a year. He also headed a few state PSUs, such as the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation, the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation, and the Odisha Mining Corporation. He has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and a M.Tech in Industrial and Management Engineering from the prestigious IIT Kanpur.
