Former Prasar Bharati Chairman Shashi Shekhar Vempati Appointed As Chairperson Of CBFC

Shashi Shekhar Vempati has been appointed as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He succeeds Prasoon Joshi, who has moved to the role of Prasar Bharati Chairperson after serving at CBFC since 2017 and taking charge of Prasar Bharati on May 2, 2026.

Vempati led Prasar Bharati from 2017 to 2022. He has worked with the University Grants Commission, Broadcast Audience Research Council, and the Department of Science and Technology. He is the Co-Founder of AI4India, which focuses on discussions about developing an artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem in India, and is associated with BharatGen, an IIT Bombay-incubated initiative working on Indic-language AI models. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B).
