Ex- IA&AS Officer Dr. Amar Patnaik Appointed as Independent Director at Amara Raja Energy
The members of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited on August 3, 2024, approved the appointment of Dr. Amar Patnaik as an Independent Director of the company.
Dr. Amar Patnaik, who took early retirement from the Indian Civil Service, served for 28 years as an Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) officer under the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India. During his tenure, he held the position of Principal Accountant General (PAG) in Sikkim, Odisha, West Bengal, and Kerala. From 2019 to 2024, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha of Odisha. His influential role in shaping data privacy legislation, including his participation in the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, has contributed to a strong legal framework for digital privacy.
His expertise has been recognised by leading industry bodies such as ASSOCHAM and FICCI, where he has been a regular keynote speaker. He has participated in parliamentary delegations to Brussels and Berlin, discussing data privacy and digital regulation with European parliamentarians through ORF and the KAS Foundation. He holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, an MBA from Xavier’s Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, and a Master’s program in Public Management from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore, and the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He completed his Ph.D. from XIMB, Bhubaneswar, and holds an Advanced Management Certificate from the Wharton School, USA. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners) and a Certified Internal Auditor (Institute of Internal Auditors). He is a practicing advocate, advising clients and government officials on legal matters and their implementation in India.
