
Charlie Shamieh Set To Succeed Ajit Jain As Insurance Chief Of Berkshire Hathaway
Berkshire Hathaway has selected Charlie Shamieh as the successor to Ajit Jain for its insurance operations, according to people familiar with the matter. Shamieh is expected to take over when Jain steps down.
Shamieh currently serves as Chairman of General Re Corporation and has experience in the insurance sector, including roles at American International Group and Munich Re. He joined Gen Re in 2018. Previously, he has served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at American International Group, Inc. (AIG), as Group Chief Risk Officer (GCRO) at Munich Re Group, and as Partner at Trowbridge Deloitte. Shamieh holds a bachelor’s degree in economics (actuarial) from Macquarie University.
Jain has been Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations at Berkshire Hathaway since 2018. He joined Berkshire Hathaway in 1986 to work in insurance operations. He also founded the Jain Foundation, which focuses on research related to muscular dystrophy. He began his career at IBM in India before moving to the United States, where he completed an MBA from Harvard University and joined McKinsey & Company. Jain has played a key role in building the company’s insurance business and was appointed Vice Chairman and Board Member in 2018. He studied at the Stewart School, Cuttack, and earned a mechanical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
