C.S. Rajan’s Appointment as Chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank Approved by RBI

C. S. Rajan has been appointed as part -time Chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank with effect from January 1, 2024, for a term of two years. The appointment is approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 27.

Rajan has over 40 years of experience in various government roles. Rajan became an Independent Director on the bank’s Board on October 22, 2022. He was an IAS officer from the 1978 batch and served as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Rajasthan. In his 12-year leadership stint, he focused on crucial areas like Energy, Highways, Water Resources, and Industry, including SSI/MSME. Following that, he dedicated 14 years to Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as Human Resources, Finance, and General Administration. Rajan actively participated in interdisciplinary teams reviewing World Bank projects and served as a Consultant on Farmer Participation in Agricultural Research and Extension Systems for the World Bank. Additionally, he advised the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for two and a half years.

The Government of India (GoI) appointed him as a Director on the Board of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) in October 2018. Subsequently, he served as the Managing Director from April 2019 to October 2022 and is currently the Chairperson of IL&FS.
