BYJU’s CBO and two other senior executives resign amid restructuring

Three top executives from BYJU’S, including Chief Business Officer Prathyusha Agarwal, have resigned, the latest in a string of senior management exits from the edtech firm. Himanshu Bajaj, the business head of BYJU’s Tuition Centres, and Mukut Deepak, the business head for Classes 4 to 10, have also left the edtech unicorn.

Agarwal joined the edtech company from Zee Entertainment, where she was the chief consumer and data officer, in February 2022. Deepak had been with the edtech company for about two years after joining from Tata Play, while Bajaj joined BYJU’s from the management consulting firm Kearney in November 2021 to lead BYJU’s Tuition Centres (BTC). BYJU’s representative verified the news and attributed the resignations to reorganisation.

The senior-level departures come only days after Cherian Thomas, BYJU’s SVP for International Business, resigned. Thomas was a major part of the edtech unicorn’s American business, spearheading Osmo, a gaming-focused company situated in the United States. Aside from top-level concerns, BYJU’s is also dealing with a slew of operational issues, such as delays in filing financials, resignations of board members, legal wranglings with lenders, and delays in raising new money. However, the edtech behemoth has just formed a board advisory council, with industry heavyweights such as TV Mohandas Pai and Rajnish Kumar serving as consultants. It also hired Richard Lobo as its new human resources director earlier this month.
