Axis Bank Reappoints Amitabh Chaudhry as MD & CEO

The Board of Axis Bank Limited has approved the reappointment of Amitabh Chaudhry as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank for three years, with effect from January 1, 2025. Subject to approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and approval of the members.

Furthermore, the Board approved the reappointment of Meena Ganesh and Gopalaraman Padmanabhan as Independent Directors of the bank for four years, with effect from August 1, 2024, and October 28, 2024, respectively. Subject to the approval of the members of the bank.

Amitabh Chaudhry, 59, joined Axis Bank in 2019 after successfully leading HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company (HDFC Life) for over nine years. Prior to HDFC Life, he was the MD and CEO of Infosys BPO and the head of the testing unit of Infosys Technologies. He was instrumental in building the BPO right from its inception and was later credited with making it an extremely profitable business with a presence across seven countries. He is an engineer from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a postgraduate in Business Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.

Meena Ganesh, 60, has been an Independent Director of Axis Bank since August 1, 2020. As the Co-founder and Chairperson, Meena leads Portea Medical (www.portea.com), which she co-founded in July 2013. Her career spans across organisations such as TutorVista, Pearson Education Services, Tesco Hindustan Service Centre, CustomerAsset, Microsoft India, PWC, and NIIT. She is a PGDM holder from IIM Calcutta and has a graduate degree in physics from Madras University. She serves on the boards of Pfizer India, Hitachi Energy, and Axis Bank. She has been recognised by Forbes Asia – 50 Over 50 and also featured in the list of Top 20 Outstanding Female Business Leaders by Forbes Asia 2021. Also recognised by Business Today as the Most Powerful Women in Business. She won Acharya /Business Mentor of the Year by Entrepreneur India, Pride of Karnataka Awards by Round Table India and Ladies Circle India and the ET Start-up Award in the Women Ahead category. She was awarded the Kempegowda Award by BBMP for contribution to the city of Bengaluru.

Gopalaraman Padmanabhan, 68, has been an Independent Director of Axis Bank since October 28, 2020. He has more than 35 years of experience with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in various capacities. At the time of superannuation, he was Executive Director at RBI. He was appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of the Bank of India in August 2015. He held this position for five years, until August 2020. He advises several firms on banking, foreign exchange, payment systems, and other regulatory issues. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from Kerala University and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Birmingham Business School.
