Asiatic Ceremony Customs Explained

Asiatic weddings are a riot of colours, fun filled situations and are full of cultures. They typically last for a month and are extravagant events. As per ancient Chinese custom the pair may first arrange for an auspicious day according to tai hua, a consultation with astrology and spirits that determines the most suitable day for marriage. On the wedding day, it is customary for the bride to be escorted down the aisle by her parents with products and flower bouquets. Her dress is usually red, a colour that represents like, success, loyalty and honour. A qipao, or Northern- style dress, is likewise frequently worn by the present bride.

The wedding is generally conducted at a temple and the bride and groom provide decorated twigs of Sakaki, a divine tree that symbolises fate, fertility, harmony and fortune to the ancestors. A tea ceremony to honour the families of the bride and groom is sometimes done during the wedding or three days after it. It’s a lovely gesture and an opportunity for the new couple to reassure their parents that they are happy in their choice of spouse.
