Amitava Mukherjee Reappointed as CMD of NMDC

The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has extended Amitava Mukherjee’s role as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NMDC Limited for a period of 1 year. With effect from November 20, 2023, until November 19, 2024, or until a permanent replacement is appointed, or until further notice, whichever occurs first.

Amitava Mukherjee is leading a digital makeover for a major Indian mining company. He introduced a high-tech ERP system, making NMDC the first Indian public-sector company to use it. As the Finance Director, he oversaw NMDC’s best financial performance ever in FY22, with big increases in profits and revenue. He also guided the split of NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) from NMDC and got NSL listed on the stock exchange, which unlocked value. He has rich experience in managing projects, digitalisation and creating company policies. He’s in charge of NMDC’s work in Australia too. He has an impressive academic record and decades of experience in finance. He joined NMDC in 2018 after working for Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
