Chevron Appoints Eimear Bonner to Lead Oil, Products and Gas Business

Chevron has appointed Chief Financial Officer Eimear Bonner as President of its Oil, Products and Gas business, effective January 1. Jeff Gustavson, currently President of the company’s New Energies business, will succeed Bonner as CFO.

The leadership changes come as the US oil major continues its succession planning ahead of a potential transition from Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth, who has led the company for more than eight years. Wirth said in December that he was discussing succession planning with the board and did not expect to remain in the role for more than 10 years.

Bonner and Gustavson are viewed by some investors as potential candidates to succeed Wirth, according to Reuters. The company said its board oversees a robust succession planning process and that it has a strong pipeline of experienced executives. Mark Nelson, the current head of the Oil, Products and Gas business, will leave the position on January 1 but remain Vice Chairman, overseeing strategy and business development.

Bonner has increasingly represented Chevron at television appearances and industry conferences over the past year. Before becoming CFO, she served as the company’s first female Chief Technology Officer and as General Director of Tengizchevroil, its joint venture operating Kazakhstan’s largest oilfield.

Gustavson, meanwhile, led Chevron’s New Energies business, including its first initiative to supply natural gas-powered electricity to data centres.
