HDFC Bank Wins Seven Bahrain Cases Over Credit Suisse AT1 Bond Claims

HDFC Bank Limited has secured favourable judgments in seven cases filed by investors over Credit Suisse Additional Tier 1 (CS AT1) Bonds purchased through the Bank. The latest orders were received on September 9, 2026, from the High Civil Court, Bahrain, following judicial scrutiny of the investors’ claims and supporting evidence.

The seven investors had alleged gross negligence, intentional misrepresentation, incorrect customer classification, non-disclosure of product features, misuse of financial leverage and violations of product suitability principles in relation to their investments. The Bahrain Court rejected the allegations, stating that the investors had failed to produce sufficient admissible evidence to substantiate their claims or establish that they had suffered losses due to the Bank.

Two of the matters were decided on September 9, while five other similar cases were rejected by the Bahrain Court between July and August 2026. In all seven judgments, the investors were ordered to bear the costs of the proceedings.

The outcomes follow a March 2026 decision by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), which dismissed complaints against HDFC Bank and held that the Bank acted only as a facilitator, while investors retained autonomy over their investment decisions.
