Tata Sons Gets Three-Month Extension To Hold AGM Amid Leadership Uncertainty

Tata Sons has received a three-month extension from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to hold its annual general meeting (AGM), allowing the company until December 31, 2026, to convene the meeting, Business Standard reported.

The extension follows the adjournment of Tata Sons’ August 18 AGM after the required quorum was not present. The meeting included an agenda item on the renewal of Chairman N. Chandrasekaran’s directorship. Tata Sons approached the RoC citing circumstances linked to restrictions placed on Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT), a key shareholder within Tata Trusts. SRTT’s restrictions affected the nomination of representatives required under Tata Sons’ Articles of Association, preventing the quorum needed for the AGM.

Chandrasekaran has also informed the Board that he will not seek another term as chairman when his tenure ends in February 2027.

The RoC has advised Tata Sons to ensure compliance with company law requirements in future meetings.
