Walmart U.S. COO Kieran Shanahan Steps Down After Nearly 30 Years
Walmart U.S. Chief Operating Officer (COO) Kieran Shanahan is stepping down from his role after nearly three decades with the company. Shanahan will continue with Walmart through the end of the fiscal year in an advisory capacity to Walmart U.S. CEO David Guggina.
Kyle Kinnard has been appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP & COO) of Walmart U.S., effective immediately. Kinnard has spent more than 25 years at Walmart and was previously serving as COO of Walmart International.
Following Kinnard’s move, Juan Galarraga has been promoted to EVP and Regional General Manager for Walmart International’s Latin America business. Galarraga joined Walmart in 2024 as Senior Vice President of acceleration and support for Walmart U.S. operations.
Kieran Shanahan began his career with Asda Stores Ltd. in 2006 as a Project Manager to the President & CEO and later served as General Store Manager and Regional Operations Manager. He joined Walmart in 2014, holding roles including Vice President of Online Grocery, VP DMM – Food Merchandising, SVP eCommerce Merchandising and Chief Merchandising Officer for Walmart Canada. He later served as EVP & Chief Growth Officer at Sam’s Club from 2022 to 2023 before becoming Chief Operating Officer of Walmart US. He is a retail executive with nearly three decades of experience across store operations, e-commerce, merchandising and business leadership. Shanahan holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons.) from Nottingham Trent University.
