Bontha Prasada Rao Retires As Independent Director Of Poonawalla Fincorp

Bontha Prasada Rao, Independent Director of Poonawalla Fincorp Limited, has retired from the position of Independent Director and as Chairperson & Member of certain Committees of the Board with effect from December 9, 2025, upon completion of his tenure.

With over 37 years of experience at Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), Rao served as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) until December 2015. During his tenure, he led strategic diversification into non-power sectors such as railway transportation and defence equipment. He was appointed to BHEL’s Board in 2007 and has held several senior roles across business segments. Under his leadership, BHEL was ranked ninth on Forbes’ list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies in 2011. He has also served as Chairman of the CII Public Sector Enterprises Council and was a member of the Board of Governors at IIM Kashipur. Rao is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, and holds a postgraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from NITIE, Mumbai.
