U.S. President Donald Trump Urges Shift From Quarterly To Biannual Financial Filings
U.S. President Donald Trump is urging the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow public companies in the US to report earnings every six months instead of quarterly.
In a Truth Social (social media platform) post, he argued that less frequent reporting would save money and let managers focus on running their companies. The move could encourage more firms to go public, reversing a recent decline, but critics warn it may reduce transparency and increase market risk. The US has required quarterly earnings reports since 1970. The Long-Term Stock Exchange recently said it would request SEC approval for semi-annual reporting. Industry figures, including Warren Buffett and JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, have questioned the benefits of quarterly guidance, citing a focus on short-term results over long-term strategy. Trump also compared US rules to China’s longer-term reporting approach.
