Supreme Court Allows Class Action Against Meta To Proceed

The Supreme Court has dismissed Meta’s appeal, allowing a multibillion-dollar class action lawsuit tied to the Cambridge Analytica scandal to move forward.

The lawsuit alleges that Meta misled investors by failing to disclose the risks of misuse of Facebook users’ data, leading to significant stock drops in 2018. The scandal, involving the personal data of 87 million users, was linked to Cambridge Analytica’s targeting of U.S. voters in the 2016 election. Meta, which has already paid fines and settlements, denies the claims, calling them baseless. The matter will now go to the District Court after the verdict upholds an earlier appellate decision.
