Jack Dorsey quits Bluesky Board
Twitter’s founder and former CEO, Jack Dorsey, has quit the board of Bluesky. Notably, Dorsey launched Bluesky in 2019 while he was still running Twitter. Dorsey promoted Bluesky as an open and decentralised standard for social media back then.
Since that time, Bluesky has transitioned into an autonomous public benefit corporation, helmed by CEO Jay Graber and supported by venture capital, and it was made accessible to the public in February. Dorsey seemingly removed his Bluesky account sometime last year, though his exit was only informally noted through a few social media posts. (He also removed his Instagram account.) Nevertheless, he continued to be the most prominent figure linked to the initiative.
After Dorsey acknowledged his departure from Bluesky while responding to a tweet, the company issued an official statement as well. “We sincerely thank Jack for his help in funding and initiating the Blue Sky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open-source social network running on Atproto, the decentralised protocol we have built.
With Jack’s departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!”
