3M Appoints Bill Brown as New CEO

3M, the industrial conglomerate (MMM.N), has appointed William M. “Bill” Brown, former CEO of L3Harris Technologies, as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This decision reflects a strategic move to bring in an external leader to navigate the company through slowing sales and the repercussions of various legal challenges. He will replace Michael Roman on May 1, who boasts a 35-year tenure with the company and will assume the post of Executive Chairman of the Board on the same date.

Brown, aged 61, served as the CEO of the aerospace and defence technology giant L3Harris from June 2019 to June 2021, followed by an additional year as the Executive Chair. Before the merger with L3, he held the position of CEO at Harris Corp. and had a 14-year tenure in various leadership roles at United Technologies.
