Wells Fargo Removes DEI Reports, Rebrands Efforts As ‘Inclusion & Accessibility’
Wells Fargo has shifted its approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with recent website changes showing the removal of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) language and reports.
The company’s site now highlights “inclusion and accessibility”, with an emphasis on programmes supporting veterans, people with disabilities, and neurodiverse employees. HR Brew, which compared the current site to archived versions, found that references to the bank’s DEI history and past annual reports have disappeared since May. Earlier this year, Wells Fargo also ended its requirement for hiring managers to consider diverse candidate slates for senior roles, a decision that drew criticism from advocacy groups.
Despite the changes, employee resource networks remain active, and Ebony Thomas continues to lead DEI at the firm. The bank’s rebranding reflects a narrowing of its public DEI commitments while retaining programmes considered less legally risky.
