Vivek Chaturvedi Appointed Chairman Of CBIC, Succeeds Sanjay Kumar Agarwal
The government has appointed Vivek Chaturvedi, a 1990-batch Indian Revenue Service officer and current Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) member, as the new Chairman of CBIC.
Chaturvedi replaces Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, a 1988-batch officer, who retired on November 28, 2025.
Before joining the Board, Chaturvedi served as Principal Director General of Vigilance and Chief Vigilance Officer, overseeing vigilance processes and internal control systems within the indirect tax administration. He earlier succeeded Vivek Ranjan as Member (Tax Policy and Legal) after Ranjan completed his tenure in August 2025. With more than three decades in government service, Chaturvedi will now head the apex body responsible for policy matters related to customs and indirect taxes.
