Vinay Prasad Set To Step Down From FDA Vaccine Unit Next Month

Vinay Prasad, who leads the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, will leave his position at the end of April.

Prasad had earlier left the agency in July and returned weeks later. He previously worked as a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, where he commented on the government response to COVID-19 and decisions taken by the agency under former official Peter Marks. Prasad joined the FDA in May and handled decisions related to vaccines and biologic medicines. With over 500 academic publications and 14,000 citations, he is the author of “Ending Medical Reversal” (2015) and “Malignant” (2020). Prasad also engages the public through his oncology podcast “Plenary Session”, medical podcast, and an educational YouTube channel, advancing conversations on medicine, science, and healthcare policy.
